
Seniors, Rookies Shine in Season Opening Shutout

JACKSON, Miss. (Aug. 19, 2016) – A new location and a lengthy weather delay couldn't slow down the USF women's soccer team as they defeated Louisiana-Monroe, 2-0, Friday afternoon in Jackson, Miss.
The game was played at Millsaps College after severe flooding across the state of Lousiana rendered the playing fields at ULM unplayable.
The Canadian duo of Jordyn Listro and Leticia Skeete put USF (1-0-0) on top in the 27th minute. Skeete scored the Bulls first goal of the season on a beautiful assist from Listro for the game winner.
In the 67th minute, freshman Andrea Hauksdottir scored her first collegiate goal to give USF some breathing room. A deflected shot from Trudi Carter allowed Hauksdottir to gather the rebound and finish the goal, putting the Bulls up 2-0.
Key Stat:
- USF used an 11-1 shot advantage and a 4-1 corner kick advantage to control the momentum of the first half and take the early lead.
Notables:
- USF started five freshmen in its first game of the season. Andrea Hauksdottir, Hrabbo Hauksdottir, Gudrun Sigurdardottir, Evelyne Viens and Yasmine Hall each started the first game of their USF careers against ULM.
- In total, eight freshmen saw action against the Warhawks.
- Freshman Andrea Hauksdottir scored her first collegiate goal as a Bull
- Leticia Skeete now ranks seventh all-time at USF with 16 career goals.
