TAMPA, OCT. 17, 2017 – The Bulls could not overcome a two-goal deficit Tuesday night as the University of South Florida men's soccer team lost 2-1 to No. 11 FIU at Corbett Stadium. A late comeback fell short in nonconference action.

USF (6-5-1) fell behind early, trailing No. 11 FIU (9-0-3), 1-0, in the 22
nd minute. The Panthers scored again in the 63
rd minute for a 2-0 lead. The Bulls converted one of their nine second-half shots in the 75
th minute. USF was awarded a penalty kick after a FIU handball.
Bradley Farias (Indiantown, Fla.) took the kick and scored his fourth goal of the season. Â

The Bulls outshot the Panthers 9-4 in the final 45 minutes and held the top scoring team in the country to one shot after the Bulls scored in the in the 75
th minute. Â

Harrison Devenish-Meares (Sydney, New South Wales, Australia) returned to his post in net after seven matches off and made four saves.

6: FIU took 12 shots in the match, six were on target. The Bulls also took 12 shots, but only had four shots on goal.

"Well, we put ourselves in a hole. That's a good team and they are playing really well so their confidence is high. But still, the amount of chances that we still get and opportunities to finish off a game and team's sit in on us. We put ourselves in that situation. It's tough. It's tough with this group. We just show our immaturity."

On Dec. 18 Bob Butehorn was appointed the head coach the USF men's soccer program. A member of the University of Tampa's 1981 national championship team and a three-time conference coach of the year, Butehorn previously led Florida Gulf Coast University's men's soccer program to six conference regular season championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances and Top 25 rankings in five seasons since 2010.

The Bulls concluded the season as The American regular season champions and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Bulls finished the season with a 10-6-4 overall record and a 6-1-0 mark in the American Athletic Conference.
