Bulls Extend Win Streak to Six on Senior Day

TAMPA (Oct. 22, 2017)  The USF women's soccer team got its sixth straight win on senior day when senior midfielder Jessica Hamrick (Winter Park, Fla.) got the game-winning header in the 49th minute.

The Bulls were back to their early-scoring ways on Sunday as sophomore forward Evelyne Viens (L'ancienne-Lorette, Fla.) scored her 10th goal of the season. Midfielder Andrea Hauksdottir (Kopovagur, Iceland) picked up a long pass from freshman Fanny Pelletier-Laroche (Quebec, Canada) and dropped it off for Viens who sent a sliding shot into the back of the net.

Hamrick was poised and ready in front of the goal in the 49th minute to jump for a corner kick from Hauksdottir, and knock the ball in over the head of the Huskies' keeper for the game-winner.

Quotable
Head coach Denise Schilte-Brown on the win…
"I feel good. I feel like it would have been different if Evelyne would have put away the breakaway. Three to nothing is a very different feel than 2-1, and I think the momentum would have stayed in our favor. Credit to UConn they kept working hard, they are always dangerous on the counter. They put away their chance and kept us on our toes even to the end of the whistle. They are always competitive."

Head coach Denise Schilte-Brown on the game-winner…
"I'm proud of Hamrick. She's been knocking on the door all season to score off a corner and I think it's probably the 10th ball she's gotten off the end of and one finally went in. I think all of the seniors did great today."

Hamrick on her the game-winner…
"We've been working on corners and it was just a matter of time before we put one in. I want to put it in on every corner, so it felt pretty good."

Hamrick on senior day…
"Senior day is kind of an emotional day, but we said there was no better way to honor us than with a win. We came back with a strong mentality, and on top of that, to score a game-winner was awesome for me. I'll never forget it."
