PHILADELPHIA, OCT. 28, 2017 – Junior Cash Tampa and freshman Rania Samhouri led USF's squads at the American Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday.
Tampa covered the hilly Belmont Plateau 8k course in 26:39.6 to earn a 38th-place finish among 77 competitors. Tampa averaged a time of 5:21.9 per mile to lead the 10th-place USF men's team.
Samhouri (Tampa) has led the USF women all season long and posted a 6k time of 23:38.8 to place 55th among 102 runners. Senior Sarah Hartman (Tampa) finished five places behind Samhouri with a time of 23:52.8 while the USF women finished in 12th place.
Quotable
Head coach Dena Reif's thoughts on the Bulls' performances:
"It's definitely not the finish we wanted as a team. Individually, we had some decent performances on a really hilly course. It was really challenging for them without having much training with that."
"On the men's side, we had Cash, John and three freshmen. We lose John next year, but return four out of the top five. On the women's side, Rania and Sarah were a strong No. 1 and 2 for us. We've got to get more people out front."
