Bulls Host SMU in Final Home Match

TAMPA, OCT. 28, 2017 – The University of South Florida men's soccer team will honor six seniors Sunday in its final home match of the regular season. The Bulls host SMU at Corbett Stadium for a 1 p.m. kick.
 
Gabriel Pfeffer (Montevideo, Uruguay), Gabriel Menescal (Coconut Creek, Fla.), Ricardo Gomez (Gainesville, Ga.), Bradley Farias (Indiantown, Fla.) and Tomaso Banfi (Milan, Italy) will be recognized prior to the start of the match at approximately 12:40 p.m. The graduating class boasts two NCAA Tournament berths, an American Athletic Conference regular season championship and a 37-24-13 record over the past four years.  
 
USF (6-5-3, 3-1-1) has played 220 minutes in its last two outings and Sunday's match will be its fourth match in twelve days.  The Bulls are looking for their first win since defeating Tulsa, 3-2, on the road Oct. 7. In their last outing, USF tied FGCU, 1-1, at Corbett Stadium.
 
The Opponent
SMU (12-2, 4-1 The American) enters Sunday's match riding a 6-match win streak. The Mustangs have not lost since Sept. 24, an overtime road loss to Tulsa. SMU has not conceded a goal in four matches and have outscored opponents 15-2 in its last six matches. Led by Garrett McLaughlin with 12 goals this season, the Mustangs lead The American with 2.14 goals per game.
 
The Bulls own a 4-1-2 series advantage and clinched the 2016 American Athletic Conference regular season title in Dallas last season. The Bulls scored in the 103rd minute, for a 1-0 road victory to clinch the title.  
 
Notables
  • USF is four wins away from a 10-win season. The program has turned in a 10-win season every year since 2013.
  • Freshman Adrian Billhardt (Berlin, Germany) leads the Bulls with five goals and five assists this season.
  • The Bulls are 5-2-1 at Corbett Stadium this season, and have accumulated a 32-11-10 record at home since 2013.
On Dec. 18 Bob Butehorn was appointed the head coach the USF men's soccer program. A member of the University of Tampa's 1981 national championship team and a three-time conference coach of the year, Butehorn previously led Florida Gulf Coast University's men's soccer program to six conference regular season championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances and Top 25 rankings in five seasons since 2010.
 
The Bulls concluded the season as The American regular season champions and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Bulls finished the season with a 10-6-4 overall record and a 6-1-0 mark in the American Athletic Conference.
