Men’s Soccer Remains Perfect in The American

TULSA, OCT. 7, 2017 – The University of South Florida men's soccer flair for dramatic wins continued Saturday in a come-from-behind road victory at Tulsa. The Bulls defeated the Golden Hurricane 3-2 at Hurricane Stadium, downing the three-time defending conference tournament champions in emphatic fashion.
The Bulls (6-3-1, 3-0 The American) scored three unanswered goals in a span of six minutes to start the second half. Senior Ricardo Gomez () led the Bulls with two goals, the first two-goal match of his USF career.
Gomez opened the flood gates in the 51st. The midfielder evened the score at 1-1 from 19 yards out on a free kick. Just three minutes later, in the 54th minute, Gomez scored again on a penalty kick. Stephen Rudderham () powered the eventual game-winning goal from 15 yards on a pass from Josue Monge ().
Three-time defending conference tournament champion, Tulsa (3-5-1, 1-2 The American), took an early 1-0 lead in the first half on a penalty kick and scored again in the 73rd minute to keep the match close.
Christian Knight (Odessa, Fla.) made six saves in 90 minutes of action and improved his season record to 5-0-1.
KEY STAT:
6: Knight's six saves proved to be the difference in the match. The junior goal keeper's six saves were superior to Tulsa's three saves.

USF returns to Corbett Stadium Friday, Oct. 13 for a battle between the only two remaining undefeated teams in the conference standings. The Bulls will host UConn at 8 p.m. and the match will air on the American Digital Network. Friday will be the program's first ever Soctoberfest. The first 300 fans will receive a USF Lederhosen t-shirt and German beers will be available to purchase at the event along with several tasting flight options.
On Dec. 18 Bob Butehorn was appointed the head coach the USF men's soccer program. A member of the University of Tampa's 1981 national championship team and a three-time conference coach of the year, Butehorn previously led Florida Gulf Coast University's men's soccer program to six conference regular season championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances and Top 25 rankings in five seasons since 2010.
The Bulls concluded the season as The American regular season champions and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Bulls finished the season with a 10-6-4 overall record and a 6-1-0 mark in the American Athletic Conference.
