TAMPA, NOV. 12, 2017 – The University of South Florida men's basketball team will look to get the second win of the Brian Gregory era Monday night against Morgan State at the Sun Dome. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.

The Bulls won in thrilling fashion in the season opener, defeating FAU, 60-59, after grad transfer guard Stephan Jiggetts (Forestville, Md.) hit a floater with 12 seconds remaining to give USF the lead. Jiggetts finished the night with 13 points, four rebounds and four assists. Forward Tulio Da Silva (Formiga, Brazil) added a career-high 20 points to lead the team. Da Silva also led the team with eight boards.

THE OPPONENT 
Morgan State (0-1) dropped its opener on the road, 76-59, to Binghamton. Forward Phillip Carr, the team's second-leading scorer from last season, led the team with 14 points. Freshman guard LaPri McCray-Pace led the team on the glass, pulling in 10 boards.

The Bears return 81 percent of their scoring output and 75 percent of their rebounding from last season. Overall, 10 letter winners return, including four starters from their squad that went 14-16 and 11-5 in the MEAC.

The Bulls have met Morgan State only once, a 91-53 victory on Jan. 3, 2000.
 
NOTABLES
  • Brian Gregory will go for win No. 250 in his head coaching career against Morgan State. Gregory won 172 games as the head coach at Dayton from 2003-11 and won 78 games at Georgia Tech from 2011-16 before winning the season opener against FAU.
  • USF improved to 35-12 all-time in season openers with the win over FAU, including a 29-6 mark at home.
  • The Bulls had assists on 15 of 20 made baskets on Friday night, including a career high- tying six assists from guard Terrence Samuel. Samuel also tied a career high with four steals in the game.
  • Seven of eight Bulls who played Friday night saw their first action at USF, with all seven getting their first USF points. Freshmen Justin Brown and David Collins also got their first collegiate points.
  • USF's three graduate transfers-Stephan Jiggetts, Payton Banks and Terrence Samuel-combined to make 114 Division I starts and appeared in 268 games before arriving in Tampa.
About USF Men's Basketball
The USF men's basketball team is led by head coach Brian Gregory. On March 22, Gregory was introduced as the 10th head coach in program history. He previously led programs at Georgia Tech (2011-16) and Dayton (2003-11). Gregory spent nearly a decade as an assistant coach under Michigan State's Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo and helped the Spartans win the 2000 NCAA National Championship. Gregory brings nearly 250 career head coaching wins and six postseason appearances, including the 2010 NIT Championship, to Tampa.
USF has retired three numbers in its 47-year history: Chucky Atkins (12), Charlie Bradley (30) and Radenko Dobras (31). The Bulls have earned three NCAA tournament bids and appeared in the NIT eight times.
