Fisher Signs Three for Fall 2018

TAMPA (Nov. 13, 2017) – USF head coach Ashley Fisher added three signees for Fall 2018. The Bulls will welcome Niels Van Noord, Ivan Yatsuk and Sergio Gomez-Montesa.

"These were the guys that we have wanted for a long time, and I couldn't be more excited to see everything work out. I believe this group will take USF men's tennis to the next level, and help us begin competing for national championships."

Van Noord from Montreal, Canada, will be ranked inside the top 200 in the junior world rankings by next year, and will play in the Australian Open qualifying round. He has already qualified for an ITF pro futures event and has been one of the top Canadian juniors for several years.

"Niels has worked incredibly hard this year and made huge strides in his game," said Fisher. "His athletic, all-court game is going to adapt perfectly to college tennis and we are excited about his future."

Ivan Yatsuk was born in Belarus, but is now a U.S. citizen residing in Bradenton, Fla. He qualified for two ITF futures events this summer and recorded his first ATP point, putting him at 1,944 in the world.

"Ivan has the physical tools to be one of the best players in the country," said Fisher. "He can adapt his game easily to any opponent, and we believe he is going to have a huge future with USF tennis and beyond."

Gomez-Montesa from Valencia, Spain, will also be ranked inside the top 200 in the world in juniors by next year. He made the semifinals of the Spanish under 18's this summer.

"Sergio is an exciting player who has the ability to take over matches with his forehand, said Fisher. "He has incredible work ethic and embodies everything that USF athletics is about."
