TAMPA, NOV. 14, 2017 – The University of South Florida men's basketball team hits the road for the first time this season, heading to DeLand to take on Stetson (2-0). Tipoff is at 8 p.m.
The Bulls are still in search of their second win of the season after dropping game two 63-53 to Morgan State on Monday. Terrence Samuel (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Bulls with 13 points. He also set a new career high with seven rebounds and added four assists. Malik Martin (Miami, Fla.) tied his career high with seven boards and chipped in three assists, also a career high.
  
THE OPPONENT 
Stetson (2-0) has won its first two games by single-digit margins, defeating Webber in its opener 98-89 and traveling to Florida International to get a 70-64 victory in its second game. Freshman Abayomi Iyiola leads the Hatters in scoring and rebounding thus far, averaging 16.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game through two games.

Stetson returns seven players from last season, including three starters and the reigning Atlantic Sun assists leader, Angel Rivera. Rivera dished out 162 helpers last season while averaging 8.0 points.

The Bulls and the Hatters meet for the 25th time. USF holds an 18-7 lead in the overall series and has won the last 12 meetings dating back to 1989. The Bulls won the last meeting, 72-63, on Nov. 22, 2013.

  • Brian Gregory will go for win No. 250 in his head coaching career against Stetson. Gregory won 172 games as the head coach at Dayton from 2003-11 and won 78 games at Georgia Tech from 2011-16 before winning the season opener against FAU.
  • The Bulls are shooting 86.5% (32-37) through two games from the free throw line, which is good for second in The American and first in the conference among teams that have played two games.
  • The Bulls have had assists on 26 of 36 made baskets so far this season. Terrence Samuel leads the way with 10 assists for the Bulls, which is sixth-best in the conference.
About USF Men's Basketball
The USF men's basketball team is led by head coach Brian Gregory. On March 22, Gregory was introduced as the 10th head coach in program history. He previously led programs at Georgia Tech (2011-16) and Dayton (2003-11). Gregory spent nearly a decade as an assistant coach under Michigan State's Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo and helped the Spartans win the 2000 NCAA National Championship. Gregory brings nearly 250 career head coaching wins and six postseason appearances, including the 2010 NIT Championship, to Tampa.

USF has retired three numbers in its 47-year history: Chucky Atkins (12), Charlie Bradley (30) and Radenko Dobras (31). The Bulls have earned three NCAA tournament bids and appeared in the NIT eight times.
