Viens Makes USF History as First Women’s Soccer All-American

TAMPA (Nov. 30, 2017)  Sophomore Evelyne Viens made USF history Thursday night, when she was named the first ever All-American for the women's soccer program, the United Soccer Coaches announced.

"We are really excited for Evelyne," said head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. "She is an extraordinary player and so deserving of this honor. It's a great reflection of her as a person and the program, and it's incredible to see her be the first player in our program to receive this honor."

Viens was one of 41 players to receive All-America recognition, and was named to the third team.

Viens (Canada) had an impressive campaign, leading the Bulls in points (33), goals (12), assists (9) and shots (87). Among her 12 goals were six game-winners, the most in a season in program history. The Canadian topped the USF charts in every offensive category for individual game highs as well.

Viens was also recently named to the All-Southeast Region First Team after helping the Bulls capture their first-ever American Athletic Conference tournament title. Viens was named the tournament's most outstanding offensive player after scoring in both the semifinal and championship matches.

Viens found the net again in USF's 3-0 home victory over Florida Gulf Coast in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The standout forward finished the season ranking fifth nationally in shots on goal per game (2.74) and eighth in game-winning goals (6).

In just two years as a Bull, Viens has moved up to tie for fourth place on USF's career goals list (28), and sixth place in assists (13).

This year's NCAA Division I All-Americans, along with their families and coaches, will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Luncheon on January 20, 2018 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in conjunction with the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Convention in downtown Philadelphia.
