USF Closes Season at Temple

PHILADELPHIA, NOV. 4, 2017 – The University of South Florida men's soccer season ended Saturday after a 1-0 loss at Temple. The Bulls needed a result from the match to earn a spot in the American Athletic Conference Tournament.  
 
USF (6-6-4, 3-2-2) outshot the Owls 12-7, including a 6-3 advantage in the second half. The Bulls but couldn't convert any of its four shots on goal. Senior Bradley Farias (Indiantown, Fla.) tallied a team best three shots, including two on goal.
 
Temple (9-7-2, 4-3-0) scored in the 54th minute. The Owls earned a corner and Joonas Jokinen scored the game winning goal on a header.

KEY STAT:
12: The Bulls took 12 shots, outshooting the Owls 12-7. USF has taken at least 12 shots in all but three games this season.

  • The Bulls have only allowed three goals in their last four games.
  • USF will complete the regular season with a record above .500 for the 14th consecutive season.  
On Dec. 18 Bob Butehorn was appointed the head coach the USF men's soccer program. A member of the University of Tampa's 1981 national championship team and a three-time conference coach of the year, Butehorn previously led Florida Gulf Coast University's men's soccer program to six conference regular season championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances and Top 25 rankings in five seasons since 2010.
 
The Bulls concluded the season as The American regular season champions and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Bulls finished the season with a 10-6-4 overall record and a 6-1-0 mark in the American Athletic Conference.
