Bulls Overpower FIU in 30-point Win

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA., DEC. 17, 2017 – The Bulls offense didn't skip a beat Sunday with an 82-52 rout of FIU at Rick Case Arena on the campus of Nova Southeastern. Laia Flores powered the Bulls with a 19-point, seven assist performance.
 
Flores (Mataro, Spain) scored 15 of her 19 points in the second half, and shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor in the final 20 minutes. USF (9-2) had four players score in double-figures. Maria Jespersen (Arhus, Denmark) and Laura Ferreira (Lisboa, Portugal) each added 16 points while Alyssa Rader (Thornton, Colo.) contributed 11 points and four rebounds. Jespersen tallied her sixth double-double outing this season with a game-high 10 rebounds while Ferreira filled her stat line with six rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals.
 
The Bulls never trailed but solidified their 30-point victory in the fourth quarter. USF outscored FIU (2-8) 21-9 in the fourth quarter and didn't allow a field goal until 5:39 remained in the contest. The Bulls defense forced 16 turnovers and scored 22 points off of Panthers' miscues.

"I thought we came out of the gate well. At halftime, we put more emphasis on the rebounding and we did a much better job on the second half on the glass. We didn't allow any second chance points in the last two periods."

This is the eighth 20-win season in program history and head coach Jose Fernandez has been at the helm for all eight 20-win seasons. The 2014-15 team reached 20 wins in 24 games, and still currently holds the best record for most wins in a season (27).
 
USF has made 13 postseason tournament appearances and had five NCAA Tournament berths in Head Coach Jose Fernandez's 17 seasons. The all-time winningest coach in program history, Fernandez has guided USF to eight 20-win seasons, two WNIT final four appearances, the 2009 WNIT championship and won more than 300 games.
