Senat Named To Outland Trophy Watch List

TAMPA, JULY 13, 2017 – Senior defensive lineman Deadrin Senat (Immokalee) was named to the Outland Trophy Watch list Thursday as the National College Football Awards continued announcements of preseason candidates for national recognition in college football.

Senat joins senior center Cameron Ruff (Rimington), senior quarterback Quinton Flowers (Maxwell), senior cornerback Deatrick Nichols (Bednarik), senior punter Jonathan Hernandez (Ray Guy) and sophomore tight end Mitchell Wilcox (Mackey) among six Bulls named to national awards watch lists, the majority of which are being announced over the next two weeks.

Senat was a second-team all-conference selection in 2016 and earned the team's Defensive MVP award. He started 12 games at defensive tackle and played in all 13, as he led USF defensive linemen and set a career high with 49 tackles. His 34 solo tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss and a sack were also career highs and he made a career-high 10 tackles in the Bulls' win at Syracuse. One of the strongest Bulls, with the ability to squat 675 pounds, Senat brings 113 career tackles and 13 tackles for loss into his senior season. He has started 24 games at defensive tackle.

Senat was among nine players from the American Athletic Conference named to the watch list for the award, which annually recognizes the outstanding interior lineman in college football. The list includes 24 offensive tackles, 21 defensive tackles, 19 centers and 17 offensive guards among the 81 standout interior linemen named. Alabama offensive tackle Cam Robinson, who claimed the 2016 Outland Trophy, was selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft (No. 34 overall) by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

ABOUT THE AWARD
The Outland Trophy winner is chosen from three finalists who are a part of the annual FWAA All-America Team. The FWAA All-America Committee, after voting input from the entire membership, selects a 26-man first team and eventually the three Outland finalists. The winner of the 72nd Outland Trophy – named after the late John Outland, an All-America lineman at Penn at the turn of the 20th century, will be announced live on ESPN at The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thurs., Dec. 7. For the third straight year, the show will air from the National Football Foundation's College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. The Outland Trophy presentation banquet, sponsored by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee, will be held on Jan. 10, 2018 in Omaha, Neb. Former Florida State coach Bobby Bowden will receive the Tom Osborne Legacy Award at the same banquet.
