Complete Team Effort Fuels 3-0 Women’s Soccer Win

Three Bulls tally goals as USF posts two wins on opening weekend.

TAMPA (Aug. 20, 2017) — The University of South Florida women's soccer team (2-0) defeated American, 3-0, Sunday afternoon as goals by Kylee Burroughs (Plant City, Fla.), Andrea Hauksdottir (Kopavogur, Iceland) and Evelyne Viens (L'ancienne-Lorette, Canada) powered USF to the shutout win.

In the 25th minute, Hauksdottir lifted a pass to Burroughs for a header and a 1-0 lead. It was her first-career goal at USF and freshman Sabrina Wagner (New Port Ritchey, Fla.) was also credited with an assist.

Ahead 1-0, the Bulls got another chance when Hauksdottir converted a penalty kick, putting the Bulls up by two.

Just 13 minutes later, sophomore forward Aubrey Megrath (West Palm Beach, Fla.) took advantage of a free kick and made a quick, short pass to Viens, who immediately scored in the top-left corner.

The Bulls' defense was key, holding American to just six shots. Senior Jessica Hamrick (Winter Park, Fla.) worked hard in the midfield, winning back possessions often, and sophomore Yasmine Hall (Edmonton, Canada) saw significant action, helping to keep American scoreless during all 90 minutes.

All of American's shots were on goal but USF keepers Kat Elliott (Bradenton, Fla.) and Ricquelle Farquharson (Davie, Fla.) were able to thwart all of them. Elliott had five saves, while Farquharson notched one.

Quotable
Kylee Burroughs on her first-career goal…
"It felt really great. We've been working on certain runs in practice. Coming in as a finisher, it was great knowing what responsibilities I had and it was a great ball from Andrea."

Head Coach Denise Schilte-Brown on Aubrey Megrath's six shots…
"Aubrey has been playing great. She's a worker, she's so athletic, God gave her some incredible tools and I think she has been using them to the best of her ability. I feel like she is going to grow so much when she gets a few more tricks under her belt, and just relaxes in front of the goal. I'm really proud of her, and she's going to score some goals, but I think it will take a little time."

Coach Schilte-Brown on Burroughs' goal
"Incredible. She really deserves it. She works so hard and is such a good kid. She is fearless in the air, and she is another hard worker for us. You have to be so grateful for the girls who are giving 100%, and she is one of those girls who is relentless with work rate."
