USF Set to Host No. 4 UNC on Sunday
TAMPA (Aug. 26, 2017) — The University of South Florida women's soccer team returns to Corbett Stadium on Sunday to battle No. 4 UNC at 1 p.m. The match will be broadcasted live on Facebook.
On Friday, the Bulls took a trip to Tuscaloosa, Ala., where they defeated the Crimson Tide, 2-1, in a thrilling overtime victory. Senior defender
Grace Adams (Accra, Ghana) played an assist by the American Offensive Player of the Week,
Evelyne Viens (L'ancienne-Lorette, Canada) to score a golden goal in the 94
th minute and defeat Alabama.
USF has entered overtime in two of its three matches this season. The Bulls opened the 2017 slate with a 3-2, double-overtime win over Charlotte, followed by a 3-0 shutout over American. Five Bulls have combined for eight goals this season, and USF has outshot opponents 58-to-33.
The Opponent
The Tar Heels and the Bulls meet for the first time in history on Sunday. Last season, UNC finished an impressive campaign with a 17-4-3 record as ACC runner-up. The Tar Heels also made an NCAA semifinal appearance last season, falling to West Virginia.
This season, UNC defeated rival Duke, 2-1, in overtime for its season opener. The Tar Heels went on to face USF rival UCF Friday where the Knights defeated UNC for the first time in program history, 2-1, in overtime.
Senior midfielder Joanna Boyles returns to the pitch this season after redshirting during the 2016 campaign due to an ACL injury. Boyles has made an immediate impact for UNC with a game-tying goal and an assist in the match against Duke, earning her ACC Offensive Player of the Week.

The USF women's soccer team has posted five consecutive seasons of 10-plus wins and six in the last seven years under head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. Schilte-Brown reached her 100th win with USF last season, and will begin her eleventh season as head coach in 2017. The Bulls made their first NCAA tournament appearance in 2010 and returned in 2014 & 2015.
