TAMPA (Aug. 27, 2017) — The University of South Florida women's soccer team took a 2-2 tie into halftime and battled No. 4 North Carolina to the last minutes on Sunday's 4-2 loss at Corbett Stadium.
USF (3-1) and North Carolina fought, neck-and-neck, trading off scores from the start. UNC was the first to get on the board when redshirt-freshman Taylor Otto converted a penalty kick in the 17
th minute, scoring her first goal of the season, and the first of three she scored during the day.
Four minutes later, the Bulls would get a chance with a penalty kick, and sophomore
Andrea Hauksdottir (Kopovagur, Iceland) stepped up to the challenge. Hauksdottir converted in the 21
st minute, marking her third goal of the season, all of which have been penalty kicks.
In the 38
th minute, Otto gave her team the lead once again, but American Offensive Player of the Week
Evelyne Viens (L'ancienne-Lorette, Canada) was quick to get the game-tying goal, scoring off a free kick from Hauksdottir two minutes later. Viens dribbled down the middle drawing UNC goalkeeper, Samantha Leshnak (Liberty Township, Ohio), outside the 6-yard box, before she chipped a shot over Leshnak's head and into the goal.
North Carolina's Alessia Russo (Kent, England), played a pass from midfielder Dorian Bailey (Mission, Kan.), to give UNC the lead in the 74
th minute. The final goal for the day came from Otto on another penalty kick after USF defender
Kelli Burney (Bealton, Va.) was issued a red card inside the penalty box.

Schilte-Brown reached her 100th win with USF last season, and will begin her eleventh season as head coach in 2017.
