TAMPA, FLA., SEPT. 17, 2017 – As the clock expired in the first half, sophomore
Stephen Rudderham scored the Bulls' game-winning goal in USF's 1-0 victory over visiting Loyola Marymount. USF improved to 2-0 at Corbett Stadium.
Rudderham (Tampa, Fla.) scored his first goal of the season when
Bradley Farias (Indiantown, Fla.) sent the forward racing up the left side. With one second left on the clock, Rudderham placed his shot into the lower right corner from 20 yards out.
Gonzalo Rodriguez (Coustituciou, Chile) sparked the play from midfield and was also credited with an assist.
The Bulls' (2-3) offense was electric in the first half, reaching 13 shots in the first 45 minutes. USF held Loyola Marymount (1-5-2) to just two shots on goal, both saved by junior
Christian Knight (Odessa, Fla.). Knight played all 90 minutes for the Bulls, garnering his first solo shutout in his first start this season.

"We had a good first half. That seems to be our M.O. We do start pretty quickly, we just have to get the second half cleaned up a little bit. It's a win. It was a tough team, give them credit, they battled really hard."

"It's awesome. We missed [campus] when we were gone, but to play in front of our home fans is fun but knowing what everyone has been through, it's kind of special. Especially, to give them a win, it's good. Hopefully, more to come."

A member of the University of Tampa's 1981 national championship team and a three-time conference coach of the year, Butehorn previously led Florida Gulf Coast University's men's soccer program to six conference regular season championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances and Top 25 rankings in five seasons since 2010.
The Bulls concluded the season as The American regular season champions and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Bulls finished the season with a 10-6-4 overall record and a 6-1-0 mark in the American Athletic Conference.
