Game Notes
TAMPA (Sept. 23, 2017) — The University of South Florida women's soccer team delivered head coach
Denise Schilte-Brown her 200
th career win on Thursday with a last-minute goal over East Carolina by freshman
Katie Kitching (Bedale, England). The Bulls will look to get their second conference win on Sunday against Cincinnati at noon.
USF defeated ECU in dramatic fashion for the second straight season. Last year, USF won with a golden goal by senior
Grace Adams (Accra, Ghana), but the Bulls were determined to win in regulation this year. Freshman
Leah Ferlin (Jacksonville, Fla.) gave USF the equalizer with a goal in the 38
th minute. In the final minute of the match, Kitching worked a quick give-and-go with sophomore
Evelyne Viens (L'ancienne-Lorette, Canada) for the game-winner.
The Opponent
The Bulls and the Bearcats are tied in the regular season series with 10 wins each. The last three meetings have ended in ties, but two of those were settled in penalty kicks during the conference tournament. In 2016, USF tied Cincinnati, 2-2, on senior day in Tampa, but defeated the Bearcats in penalty kicks, 4-3, to advance to the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference Championship.
Cincinnati is undefeated at home this season with four wins and two draws. The Bearcats opened their conference slate with No. 14 UCF resulting in a 0-0 tie on Thursday night. Cincinnati's one loss this season was to LSU, 1-0, on the road.
