TAMPA, SEPT. 25, 2017 – The University of South Florida men's soccer team looks to extend its three-match win streak Tuesday when it takes on No. 10 Louisville. The Bulls will battle in a nonconference match-up on the ACC Network Extra at 7 p.m. ET.
USF (4-3) averages 3.0 goals per game in its last three matches, including a season high five goals against North Florida (Sept. 20). The Bulls are coming off a thrilling 3-2 double overtime win Saturday when they defeated War on I-4 rival UCF 3-2. The Bulls have played three top-30 teams on the road this season and are looking for their road first win of the year.
American Athletic Conference weekly honor roll selection
Adrian Billhardt (Berlin, Germany) leads the Bulls offense with 11 points in seven starts this season. Last week, the newcomer turned in two goals and three assists in the Bulls' 2-0 week.
Bradley Farias (Indiantown, Fla.) matches Billhardt's team best three goals and has three assists on the year.
In the last three matches,
Christian Knight (Odessa, Fla.) is 3-0 and is averaging 3.67 saves per match and made a season best five saves against North Florida (Sept. 20).
The Opponent
Louisville (6-1-1) is also riding a three-match win streak. The Cardnials are led by Tim Kubel and Tate Schmitt with nine points each. Kubel has a team best four goals. Louisville is top-25 tested with a 2-1-1 record against top-25 opponents, with wins over No. 7 Syracuse (Sept. 15) and No. 25 Butler (Aug. 28).
Tuesday's match marks the 25th meeting between the Cardinals and the Bulls. USF owns a 14-7-3 series record. The Bulls will play at Louisville for the first time since 2013 when they played to 0-0 draw.
Notables
- USF has reached 13+ shots in all but two matches this season. At Corbett Stadium, the Bulls average 15.0 shots per game.
- The Bulls have turned in two shutouts this season, both have been at home. (Aug. 28, 3-0 vs. Lipscomb and Sept. 17, 1-0 vs. LMU)
- Tomasz Skublak and Adrian Billhardt earned their first conference honors at USF after combining for four goals and four assists, the league announced Monday. The pair led the Bulls to a 2-0 week, including a War on I-4 overtime win to open American Athletic Conference action.
On Dec. 18 Bob Butehorn was appointed the head coach the USF men's soccer program. A member of the University of Tampa's 1981 national championship team and a three-time conference coach of the year, Butehorn previously led Florida Gulf Coast University's men's soccer program to six conference regular season championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances and Top 25 rankings in five seasons since 2010.
The Bulls concluded the season as The American regular season champions and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Bulls finished the season with a 10-6-4 overall record and a 6-1-0 mark in the American Athletic Conference.
