OMAHA, NEB., SEPT. 8, 2017 – The University of South Florida couldn't fend off a late run by Creighton Friday night and dropped a 2-0 decision at Morrison Stadium.
The Bulls (1-3) faced a previously ranked Creighton (3-2) team in its annual Socctoberfest event, played in front of 3,889 fans.
USF's newcomers gained valuable experience as freshman
Avionne Flanagan (Baltimore, Md.) garnered his first career start and freshman
Diego Guerrero (San Salvador, El Salvador) made his first collegiate appearance.
After a scoreless first half, Creighton pulled ahead in the 62
nd minute on a long through ball to Luke Haakenson for the 1-0 edge. The Bluejays added an 82
nd minute score for the two goal victory.

"This is the type of environment we want to play in. We want our guys to embrace it. I thought Avionne and Diego gave us some good minutes. I thought we played well until the (first) goal. There were just some immature mistakes and we'll learn from that and continue to grow."

4 – USF was limited to four shots in the match. The Bulls averaged 16.0 shots per game entering Friday's matchup.
NOTABLES:
- Friday marked the first time this season the Bulls didn't reach double figure shots.
- USF has played three consecutive road matches for the first time since 2015.
- The Bulls three-game skid is the first since 2014 when they lost to Memphis (2-1), Clemson (3-0) and UConn (1-0).
- The Bulls were held scoreless for back-to-back games for the first time since 2015 (at. Notre Dame, vs. Indiana).
UP NEXT:
The Bulls are scheduled to return to Corbett Stadium, Thursday, Sept. 14 to host in-state rival Stetson. It is USF's Salute to Service match with a 7 p.m. start.
On Dec. 18 Bob Butehorn was appointed the head coach the USF men's soccer program. A member of the University of Tampa's 1981 national championship team and a three-time conference coach of the year, Butehorn previously led Florida Gulf Coast University's men's soccer program to six conference regular season championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances and Top 25 rankings in five seasons since 2010.
The Bulls concluded the season as The American regular season champions and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Bulls finished the season with a 10-6-4 overall record and a 6-1-0 mark in the American Athletic Conference.
