TAMPA, Fla., Oct 19, 2018 --USF men's soccer heads to Orlando for the War on I-4 to take on arch conference rival, No. 19/24 UCF, on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
Bulls Ready to Knock Off the Knights
The Bulls (5-5-1, 2-0-2 AAC) head into their fifth straight conference match following their 3-2 thrilling overtime win against Temple on October 12. USF defeated Temple behind
Tomasz Skublak's (Ontario, Canada) golden goal and regulation goals from
Alex Zis (Ontario, Canada) and
Emilio Ycaza (St. Petersburg, Fla.).
The Bulls' win against the Owls placed them in a tie for first in the AAC with UConn, who USF drew with in September. With UCF only sitting one point behind USF in the conference standings, Saturday night's rivalry game is sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Honored Bulls
Tomasz Skublak is the reigning AAC Offensive Player of the Week, after his third game-winning goal of the season against Temple.
Alex Zis joined the AAC Honor Roll for the week of Oct. 15.
Quotable by Bob Butehorn
"The game always lives up to its billing, said head coach
Bob Butehorn. "USF vs UCF, college soccer doesn't get much better in the state of Florida."
The Opponent
No. 19/24 UCF comes into the match against USF off the heels of a 5-1 victory over FGCU. The Knights are currently 9-2-2, 2-1-1 AAC, on the season.
The Knights are led by the conference's leading goal scorer, Cal Jennings. Jennings has scored seven goals in 12 games played. USF will need to be especially weary of Jennings late in the game, as six of his 17 goals have been game-winners. UCF boasts a high-octane offense and comes into the match leading the conference in both goals and assists.
The Knights' goalkeeper, Yannik Oettl, has started 13-of-14 matches, and has recorded a total of 36 saves on the year.
