DALLAS, Oct. 6, 2018 – USF men's soccer battled with SMU to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at Westcott Field in Dallas, earning crucial points in conference play on the road.
Harrison Devenish-Meares was a bright spot on the night for the Bulls (4-5-2, 1-0-2) earning a career-high 10 saves in critical moments for USF, including a 90
thminute save which sent the match to overtime. Despite three shot attempts in overtime, USF could not find the game-winner in the extra minutes.
USF was down 1-0 in just the third minute after SMU's Garrett McLaughlin scored the lone Mustang goal on the night. Both USF and SMU went back and forth before USF perfectly executed a corner kick to level the match in the 31
stminute.
Adrian Billhardt (Berlin, Germany) kicked the ball short to
Alex Zis (Oakville, Canada) who set up
Tomasz Skublak (Hamilton, Canada) for a header that sailed over SMU's goalkeeper's fingertips.
After a weather delay that lasted over an hour following the first half, the match resumed to start the second half. The Bulls and the Mustangs battled in the second half and while the Bulls had good chances, Devenish-Meares save in the final minute was the closest either team got to a game-winner in regulation. USF and SMU both could not find the back of the net in the overtime periods and the American Athletic Conference foes tied for the second straight time in the series history, last meeting at Corbett Stadium on Oct. 29, 2017 (0-0).
USF remains undefeated in conference play with one victory and two ties, and have played three of its last four matches in double overtime. The Bulls have not lost six of its last seven matches, and are unbeaten for the last four matches.
In the hotly contested offensive night, USF had 15 shots on the night, Skublak taking seven of them with two on goal while SMU took 24 shots on the night.
