Bob Butehorn signs Salvatore Mazzaferro

TAMPA, Fla., Nov 19, 2018 –Head USF men's soccer coach Bob Butehorn is pleased to announce the signing of Salvatore Mazzaferro, a high school senior defender from Caledon East, Ontario, Canada, to his 2019 signing class. 
 
Mazzaferro plays for MLS Academy U19 squad Toronto FC and attends Robert F. Hall Catholic SS. The defender rotates between left back and center back and helped his team to a Canadian national championship in 2015, where he was the second-leading goal scorer in the tournament. He is the captain of his varsity soccer team at Robert F. Hall Catholic SS, and won athlete of the year at St. Cornelius. He also helped his team win the Disney Cup in 2015. 

"We're extremely pleased to have Sal join our program," head coach Bob Butehorn said. "He comes from an outstanding academy program in TFC so we expect his contributions to immediate. His ability to play both as an outside back and center back will allow us to be flexible in our formations. We look forward to assisting in his development as a player and person."
 
In three seasons with Toronto FC, the 6-0 defender has scored two goals on an average of 54 percent shooting efficiency. 
 
Mazzaferro has been recruited by Penn State, Georgetown, Syracuse and Notre Dame.

The Bulls concluded the 2018 regular season with a 7-7-2 overall record and  American Athletic Conference 4-1-2 mark. Head Coach Bob Butehorn leads the Bulls in his second season at the helm.
