Bulls Jump to No. 17 in Week Three AP, Coaches Polls

TAMPA, Nov. 20, 2018 – Despite losing All-American candidate Kitija Laksa to injury in Thursday night's win over Bethune-Cookman, USF women's basketball moved up to No. 17 in this week's Associated Press and WBCA Coaches Polls, respectively.

A deciding factor in USF's jump would be USF's team win over Oklahoma, who has qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the last 19 straight seasons. The Bulls outlasted Oklahoma 87-70, but the final score was the product of a 19-3 run in the fourth quarter, as USF and Oklahoma were tied 50-50 midway through the third quarter. An explosive night from fifth-year senior Laura Ferreira powered USF, as she hit 8-of-13 threes on the night and racked up 34 points in her best career performance.

Ferreira's offensive performance was just as incredible as her defensive performance, as she held OU's leading scorer Shaina Pellington to just seven points on the night and eventually fouled out, frustrated by Ferreira's relentless counterattacks. Ferreria was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for her career-best performance.

USF is off to a 4-0 start on the season, and has delivered the young season's first losses to all four of its opponents. The Bulls resume power-play this week, wrapping up a week of four power-five opponents in six days, when they travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam and take on Kentucky (Thanksgiving Day), North Carolina (Nov. 23) and RV UCLA (Nov. 24).

At least three Bulls have scored in double-figures in every game this season, and USF is led by Laura Ferreira, averaging 20.5 points per game. She is the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
