Harvey Named AAC Freshman of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I., Nov. 26, 2018USF women's basketball player Sydni Harvey, a freshman from Nashville, Tenn., has been named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week after leading USF in three games at the Paradise Jam last week. 
 
Harvey racked up 52 points in three games last week, and set or tied her career high in scoring in each of No. 17 USF's power five matchups. She scored 16 points against Kentucky to tie her career high, before scoring a career-high 17 points in the 71-69 loss against North Carolina. She was critical in USF's bounce-back 60-56 win over UCLA (receiving votes) on Saturday, where she scored a career-high 19 points in the victory. This season, Harvey has scored 16 points or more against Power Five opponents.
 
For her standout performance, she was named to the Paradise Jam Island Division Tournament All-Star Team, a team of five players from the loaded field in the U.S. Virgin Island of St. Thomas. Napheesia Collier of UConn was named the AAC Player of the Week. 
 
Harvey and the Bulls return to action on Friday night at 6 p.m. at the Yuengling Center against New Hampshire, which kicks off a four-game home stretch for USF.

USF notched its sixth consecutive 20-win season and fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2017-18. It marked the ninth 20-win season in program history, with head coach Jose Fernandez at the helm for all nine. The Bulls posted 26 wins in 2017-18, just shy of the program record of 27 set in 2008-09 and 2014-15. 
 
USF has made 14 postseason tournament appearances and had six NCAA Tournament berths in head coach Jose Fernandez's 18 seasons. The all-time winningest coach in program history, Fernandez has guided USF to nine 20-win seasons, two WNIT final four appearances, the 2009 WNIT championship and won more than 300 games.
