Bulls Fall in American Athletic Conference Title Match

TAMPA, Nov. 4 2018 – USF looks ahead to the NCAA tournament after a 3-0 loss to No. 19 Memphis in The American Athletic Conference title match Sunday at Corbett Stadium.

The Tigers (17-3-0) had early momentum when they scored a goal in the sixth minute and held the Bulls to just four shots in the first half of the match, seven overall. Memphis added two insurance goals in the second half to claim its first tournament championship in The American.

A pair of Canadians combined for the most shots for USF as Evelyne Viens and Olivia Cooke each had two. Freshman Cooke had the Bulls best chance at getting on the board when she blasted a ball from about 30 yards out, but it hit the right post and rebounded back into play where it was recovered by Memphis.

Freshman keeper Sydney Martinez (Rincon, Ga.) faced 12 shots from the Tigers, and had four total saves.

Three Bulls were named to the all-tournament team for their outstanding contributions during tournament play, including forward Viens, defender Kelli Burney (Bealeton, Va.) and midfielder Aubrey Megrath (West Palm Beach, Fla.).

Quotable
Head coach Denise Schilte-Brown on the loss…
"I think you can always profit from failure. If you do that, you're going to grow as a team and as a person, and that's been our goal this year and one of our mottos."

  • The Tigers snapped USF's eight-game win streak, and 15-game home win streak
  • Sunday's loss is the first at Corbett Stadium since August 2017, and the first conference loss at Corbett Stadium since September 2016
