Women’s Tennis Gears Up for 2019 Schedule

TAMPA, DEC. 6, 2018 - Head coach Cristina Moros leads the Bulls in her fourth season as they set their sights on 12 NCAA tournament opponents in 2019, six of which made it to the second round or farther.

"This is the most competitive schedule we have played since I have been at USF and I believe this is the year we are ready for these types of challenges," said head coach Cristina Moros. "Our 13 home matches feature the top schools in our conference as well as some of the top teams from the SEC and Big 12.  I fully expect there to be some amazing tennis to watch with some great battles at our courts in Tampa. I'm hopeful we can draw a good fan base to help our team play in a great environment."
 
USF women's tennis will host 13 home matches, and play nine matches on the road in 2019. The Bulls will take on 14 teams that ranked in the ITA top 75 at the end of the 2018 season, 10 in the top 50 and three in the top 25. USF checks in at No. 62.
 
USF will open up its 2019 season with a home match at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts against FAU on Jan. 12 at noon. Following the home opener, the Bulls will travel south for an away match at FGCU (Jan. 13) and will return to Tampa on Jan. 20 to host LSU.
 
USF will spend the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Athens, Ga., Jan. 25-26, where it will face host No. 17 Georgia in the opening round. Last season, Georgia advanced to the NCAA tournament quarterfinals. The Bulls will then take on either Kansas State or William and Mary based on the results of the first day.
 
In February, USF will host MTSU (Feb. 2), UNF (Feb. 3), Mississippi State (Feb. 22) and Oklahoma (Feb. 24). During the same month, the Bulls will face NCAA tournament teams Kentucky (Feb.15) and Tennessee (Feb. 17) on the road.  
 
The Bulls will spend the entire month of March at home with six straight matches at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. The long homestand for USF will begin with its first American Athletic Conference opponent, Tulane, on March 3. The Bulls will face four total conference opponents during the month of March, including SMU (March 12), Wichita State (March 15) and No. 19 Tulsa (March 20). USF will also welcome Penn and Maryland to Tampa on March 7 and March 23, respectively.
 
After a busy month at home, USF will take its talents on the road where it will close out the regular season with four away matches in April. Moros will lead her team against Rice (April 5) and FIU (April 6), and the Bulls will finish against conference foes Houston (April 7) and No. 22 UCF (April 13). The regular season finale will be a War on I-4 battle at the site that the American Athletic Conference championship that will be hosted by the Knights just a few days later, April 17 – 20. The tournament will take place at USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla.
