
Bulls Head North for Old Dominion Spring Women’s Regatta

TAMPA, MARCH 2, 2018 – The University of South Florida sailing team is back on the water for the first time in two weeks when it competes in the Old Dominion Spring Women's Regatta Saturday and Sunday.
The Bulls won the first event of the spring season, claiming first at the USF Women's Interconference Feb. 17-18. The B division of freshman Marina Barzaghi (Saunderstown, R.I.) and junior Darby Capellin (Bradenton, Fla.) finished first overall, besting the second place team by 31 points. The A division of sophomore Delaney Brown (West Palm, Fla.) and junior Rachel Yannelli (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) finished fourth overall.
USF will race against 17 other schools from across the country this weekend. The like of Brown, Yale, Cornell, University of Pennsylvania, Georgetown, Navy, UC Santa Barbara, Wisconsin, Tulane and the University of Rhode Island will be in attendance.

The USF sailing program has reached the national finals in five of the last six years. The Bulls finished in the top 10 during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The sailing team is based out of St. Petersburg and led by head coach Allison Jolly, a 2016 Florida Sports Hall of Fame inductee.

- The same four that did so well two weeks ago will again compete for the Bulls this weekend.
- This will be the site as the 2018 National Championships in May.
- Conditions for the weekend are challenging, as air and water temperatures will be below 50 degrees. Due to a nor'easter affecting most of the north east and as far down as Georgia, there will be sustained winds of 25-30 knots and gusts of up to 50.
