Senat in action Sunday
INDIANAPOLIS, MARCH 3, 2018 – USF football's
Quinton Flowers (Miami) and
Marquez Valdes-Scantling (St. Petersburg) posted a pair of top 40-yard dash times among strong performances Saturday on Day 2 of field tests at the NFL Scouting Combine held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Flowers' 40-yard dash time of 4.63 led all 19 quarterbacks invited to the combine and was well ahead of the second-best time of 4.70 posted by Ohio State's J.T. Barrett.
Meanwhile, Valdes-Scantling, who measured at 6-4, 206-pounds, ran a blazing fast 4.37 in the 40-yard dash to post the second-best time among all 44 wide receivers invited to the NFL Combine. His time was just behind that of LSU's D.J. Clark (6-3, 199) who posted a 4.34. The pair joined N.C. State running back Nyheim Hines (4.38) as the only players to run under 4.40 so far at the 2018 NFL Combine, which puts more than 300 top prospects through physical and mental tests prior to the 2018 NFL Draft, April 26-28.

Field tests continue on Sunday and Monday. USF defensive tackle
Deadrin Senat (Immokalee) will take to the field on Sunday. The NFL Network is televising live coverage of the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine, which can also be streamed on the NFL Mobile app and at NFL.com.
Flowers, who measured at 5-10, 214-pounds, also posted a mark of 112 inches in the broad jump and took part in passing drills and some running back and wide receiver drills on Saturday.
"He changed the program at South Florida," NFL Network analyst Mike Maycock said. "I like him as a quarterback, but his ability in space is special. They (NFL teams) are going to look at him everywhere, because they believe in the kid No. 1 and the athlete No. 2."
Valdes-Scantling also posted a 30.5-inch vertical, 124.0-inch broad jump and bench pressed 225 pounds 15 times on Saturday. His broad jump ranked among the top six wide receivers while his bench press reps were among the top 13.
A two-time all-conference selection and 2016 American Conference Offensive Player of the Year,
Flowers set 42 program records and is USF's and The American's career record-holder in total offense (11,802 yards) and total touchdowns responsible for (112). He tied the USF record for wins by a starting quarterback with 30 and is just the fourth player in NCAA history to pass for more than 8,000 yards and run for more than 3,500 yards on their career.
Valdes-Scantling led USF with 53 receptions for a program season-record 879 yards and had six touchdowns in 2017 while averaging 16.6 yards per catch. A transfer to USF after playing two seasons at N.C. State, Valdes-Scantling finished his collegiate career with 119 receptions for 1,832 yards and 12 touchdowns.
A two-time all-conference selection,
Senat earned first team all-conference honors in 2017 after a career-best year in which he posted 10.5 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks to go with 66 tackles, which ranked second on the team. The powerful defensive lineman averaged 7.4 tackles per game over his final eight games and capped his career with three sacks vs. Texas Tech in the Bulls' Birmingham Bowl victory.
