Bulls Triumph in The American Quarterfinals

DALLAS (April 20, 2018) —Fifth-seeded USF was victorious over No. 4 Wichita state in The American quarterfinals, 4-3, on Friday afternoon. The Bulls remain undefeated in The American tournament with 13 straight victories.

Alberto Barroso-Campos, the junior from Spain, played the premiere spot for the Bulls and defeated Haru Inoue in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, to clinch the match for the reigning American champions.

The Bulls (9-15, 3-3) started strong with doubles wins on courts one and two, and sophomore Jakub Wojcik (Delray Beach, Fla.) carried that momentum into singles with a straight-set, 6-2, 6-3, victory to help USF regain the lead, 2-1, after a loss on court six.

Wichita State responded on courts three and four, taking a 3-2 lead, but senior USF staple Peter Betran proved why he is a dependable force for the Bulls and won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.

In doubles, Barroso-Campos and senior Grayson Goldin kicked off the match on a high note, defeating Miroslav Herzan and Andrea Caligiana, 6-3 on court one. Bertran and Wojcik clinched the doubles point, 7-5, at No. 2 doubles.

Head coach Ashley Fisher on the win…

"Really proud of the boys today in another outstanding team performance. Some incredible courageous tennis especially from Alberto having to absorb a lot of adversity in the final set. That's something we will have to continue doing to advance in this tournament and we are excited for the opportunity tomorrow."
