USF Falls, 2-1, to Auburn Despite Strong Offensive Effort

AUBURN, Ala., AUG. 19, 2018 – Despite USF's 20-13 shot advantage over Auburn on Sunday afternoon, the Bulls couldn't come back from a 2-0 deficit.
Ā
Redshirt junior defender Kelli Burney (Bealeton, Va.) scored for USF when Andrea Hauksdottir (Kopavogur, Iceland) served in a corner in the 89th minute that Burney headed down and in. USF's offense continued to pressure, but didn't have enough time to tie up the match.
Ā
Juniors Aubrey Megrath (West Palm Beach, Fla.), Evelyne Viens (L'ancienne-Lorette, Quebec, Canada) and Hauksdottir were the top shooters for USF. The trio combined for twelve shots, five on goal.
Ā
All-American Viens went 3-for-3 in shots on goal, and had a huge moment up against Auburn goaltender Sarah Le Beau. Forward Viens got past two defenders, took the ball inside the box and sent a right-footed shot to the top left corner forcing a diving save. Ā
Ā
USF saw freshman Sydney Martinez in goal for the entire 90 minutes. Despite Auburn's two goals, the freshman stayed composed, collecting three shots on target from the Tigers. The Bulls defense blocked two shots.
