Bulls Ready to Come Home
USF men's soccer (0-2) is coming off of a two-game road trip to Michigan to open the 2018 campaign, where the Bulls fell to then-No. 7 Michigan State (1-0) and then-No. 21 Michigan (2-0). The Bulls and Spartans battled until the final moments on Aug. 24 in East Lansing, with a nearly impenetrable defensive effort bolstering the Bulls against the Spartan attacks, until the Spartans edged in a goal in the 86
thminute, after having no shots on frame for the duration of the game.
In Ann Arbor, USF experienced adversity in the form of an ejection and will be without key defenseman
Henrique Gallina (Atibaia, Brazil) in Friday night's match. The Bulls played with 10 men for the majority of the contest and fell to the Wolverines 2-0.
Goalkeeper
Harrison Devenish-Meares (Sydney, Australia) was a bright spot for the Bulls in the opening weekend, earning a career-high six saves against Michigan on Monday night.
The Opponent
Virginia Tech is 2-0 after the opening weekend of the 2018 season, after defeating Air Force 2-1 last Friday, and Garder-Webb by the same score on Sunday in double overtime in Harrisonburg, Va. Virginia Tech's scoring effort against Air Force came at the feet of junior defenseman Marc Hoppler and the deciding goal from junior forward Nico Quashie. Hoppler scored his second goal of the season against Gardner-Webb in double overtime to secure the victory for the Hokies. Freshman midfielder Chris Little scored the equalizing goal against Gardner-Webb midway through the second half.
In the two contests, Hokie goalkeeper Mathijs Swaneveld amassed 200 minutes and totaled four saves on the weekend.
