September 10, 2018 | Women's Sailing
TAMPA, SEPTEMBER 10, 2018 – The USF sailing team began the fall season with an impressive showing at the first ever SAISA Women's Open held in St. Petersburg, finishing in second place.
With the finish, the Bulls qualify for the first-ever Women's Showcase Semi-Final regatta. In the past, this event was known as the Atlantic Coast Women's Championships, but had been expanded to two regattas, with a finals event taking place two weeks after.
USF finished just behind the College of Charleston. Jacksonville, Eckerd and Clemson rounded out the top five.
Quotables
Head coach Allison Jolly on this weekend's conditions and overcoming adversity:
"Conditions were tricky at Eckerd College with very light wind and thunderstorm activity threatening several times Saturday afternoon, but the team did a wonderful job of persevering."
Head coach Allison Jolly on how the team jelled in the opening weekend:
"We were fortunate to be able to mix up the starting lineups during the SAISA Women's Open. It was an excellent opportunity for the senior crews to help show the ropes to our freshmen crews. The strong result bodes well for the future of the program."
