Tiron and Yaylali Capture Doubles Title at Rice Invite

HOUSTON, Sept. 24, 2018- USF women's tennis saw three Bulls in singles flight championships, while sophomore Evelyne Tiron and freshman Selin Yaylali won a doubles title at the Rice Invite over the weekend.

Tiron (Bucharest, Romania) and Yaylali (Gainesville, Fla.) won three-straight to claim the doubles flight four title. The pair defeated Ana Perez and Julia Navajo-Melendez from Texas State, 7-5, and Ivana Babic and Haruka Sasaki from UNT, 6-1, to reach the championship match. In the final match, the pair made quick work, defeating Almudena Boza and Carla Pons, 6-2.

Senior Ana Roman Dominguez (Burgos, Spain) had a ranked win over No. 112 Eva Alexandrova on her way to the championship match in flight one singles. She also defeated Moka Ito from Alabama before battling to a three-set loss in the championship against Tamuna Kutubidze from UNT, 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-3.

Senior Nicole Dzenga also made her way to a singles championship. She shut out Vanessa Reinecke from Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 6-0, 6-0, and defeated Polina Mutel from Northwestern State, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. She saw Rice's Victoria Smirnova in the championship, falling 6-3, 6-1.

Tiron also worked to a singles championship with a straight-set win over Camille Townsend from Texas A&M Corpus Christi. She advanced to the championship match on a walkover form Anastasia Smirnova, but fell 6-2, 6-2, to Lucia Natal from UTA.
