September 27, 2018 | Women's Soccer
STORRS, Conn., SEPT. 27, 2018 – All-American Evelyne Viens wasted no time in keeping her status as the nation's leader in goals per game. The Canadian striker scored in the 13th minute and the 49th minute to lift No. 19/16 USF over UConn, 4-0, in the Bulls' conference opener.
USF (6-1-0) extended its win streak to five games after winning its American Athletic Conference opener for the second consecutive season, making the Bulls 2-0 in conference openers against the Huskies (2-10-0).
Junior Aubrey Megrath (West Palm Beach, Fla.) netted the Bulls' second goal of the match when Viens took a shot as four defenders closed in, and it was deflected by the UConn keeper. Megrath dropped in on the left side to take advantage of the rebound in the 24th minute.
In the 82nd minute, junior Rebekah Anderson (Valrico, Fla.) took a shot off her own corner kick. Anderson's shot was blocked, but sophomore Leah Ferlin (Jacksonville, Fla.) turned quick to score off the rebound.
Freshman keeper Sydney Martinez finished the night with her first solo shutout. She recorded two saves and advanced to 5-1-0 on the season.
