USF Opens Season at Home Against FAU, Will Visit FGCU

TAMPA, Jan. 11, 2019 – The University of South Florida women's tennis team will open their 2019 season with a home match against FAU on Saturday, Jan. 12, followed by a trip to FGCU on Sunday, Jan. 13.

The Bulls are coming off of a 12-10 season, where they boasted a 10-3 home record with wins over teams like Michigan State and Western Michigan.

"This is the most competitive schedule we have played since I have been at USF and I believe this is the year we are ready for these types of challenges," said head coach Cristina Moros.

The women's tennis team will be led by seniors Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe), Vanja Klaric (Gaborone, Bostwana), and Ana Roman Dominguez (Burgos, Spain). Dzenga had a 12-5 record last season and went on an eight game win-streak. Klaric posted the longest win-streak on the team with nine straight in the 2018 season and went 13-8 during singles matches. Roman Dominguez faced six ranked opponents and defeated No. 119 Wendy Zhang in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

FAU
FAU finished their 2018 season with an 11-8-2 record. The Owls have multiple key players, including sophomores Jemi Aguilar, who last season was ranked No. 55 in ITA rankings in doubles, and Natalia Boltinskaya, who went 16-5 in singles.

The Eagles posted a 10-8 record in the 2017-2018 season and played in the ASUN championship, but lost to Stetson, 4-3.

The Eagles are led by senior Laura Falceto, who had a two-match win streak at the end of last season, and senior Julia Acsua who earned ASUN First Team All-Conference accolades. The Bulls topped the Eagles, 4-3, when they last met in 2018 at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
