Bulls Open 2019 Season at Home Against FGCU
TAMPA, JAN. 18, 2019 – USF men's tennis will open its season at home this Saturday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. against FGCU.
Head coach
Ashley Fisher starts his third season at the helm of the Bulls having advanced the team to its fifth consecutive American Athletic Conference championship match last season.
The Bulls had the 15th best recruiting class in 2018, according to the Tennis Recruiting Network. New additions include freshmen
Chase Ferguson (Melbourne, Australia),
Sergio Gomez Montesa (Valenia, Spain),
Tobias Sonne (Buenos Aires, Argentina),
Niels Van Noord (Quebec, Canada), and
Ivan Yatsuk (Minsk, Belarus).
Senior
Alberto Barroso-Campos (Montijo, Spain), won 11 matches on the top two courts in 2018, and returns to the Bulls ranked No. 43 in singles.
USF has an exciting schedule in 2019 with six teams that appeared in the NCAA Tournament and five ranked in the ITA Top 25.
Scouting the Opponents
FGCU's 2018 season ended in the second round of the ASUN tournament with a regular season record of 9-12. CJ Weber returns for his eighth season as head coach. The last time the Eagles took on the Bulls was Jan. 15, 2017 at their Spring Invitational where the No. 25 Bulls left victorious.
Freshman Pedro Maciel (Brazil) and junior Feliksas Sakalauskas (Lithuania) join FGCU in the 2019 season. Junior Felipe Ramirez will be a key player for the team. He had six wins on the premiere court in his sophomore campaign last season.

The Bulls travel to Baton Rouge, La., for the Jerry Simmons Invitational Jan. 26-27. The event is hosted by LSU and matches are still to be determined.
