USF Travels to Athens for ITA Kick-Off Weekend

TAMPA, Jan. 24, 2019 – The University of South Florida women's tennis team (1-2) will be seeking road wins in Athens, Ga., this weekend at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, Jan. 25-26. The Bulls will take on host Georgia at 2 p.m. on Friday.
 
USF is coming off of a 6-1 home loss against LSU, a game in which senior Ana Roman Dominguez (Burgos, Spain), shined beating sophomore No. 13 Eden Richardson (Bath, England), with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win on court one. Roman Dominguez's 3-0 start to the season earned her American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors.
 
The Bulls' last road match let to its first victory of the season, a win over FGCU, 5-2. Freshman Amelie Boy (Trianon, Mauritis), clinched the victory, 7-5, 7-5, on court five for her second win of the season.
 
 
Scouting the Opponent:
UGA
The No. 5 Bulldogs have six ranked singles players. Sophomore Katarina Jokic (Novi Grad, Bosnia) at No. 8, junior Mata Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain) at No. 14, sophomore Vivian Wolff (Atlanta, Georgia), at No. 54, freshman Lourdes Carle (Daireaux, Argentina) at No. 78, freshman Meg Kowalski (Chicago, Illinois) at No. 79, and junior Elena Christofi (Athens, Greece), who sits at No. 107.
 
The Bulls will be Georgia's first competition of the 2019 season after an impressive Elite Eight finish in 2018.
 
Kansas State
The Wildcats (1-0) are coming off of a 7-0 win over South Dakota (0-1), where Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Maria Linares (Maracay, Venezuela), who clinched the victory at the No. 1 spot against the Coyotes.
 
William & Mary
The Tribe (1-1) are coming off of a 4-3 loss to Winthrop (1-0). William & Mary had wins at the No. 3, 4, and 5 spots, with performances from senior Lauren Goodman (Fort Wayne, Ind.), junior Charlotte Madson (Pittsburgh, Pa.), and freshman Mila Saric (Los Cristianos-Arona, Tenerife, Spain), respectively.
 
William & Mary finished its 2018 season in the NCAA tournament after earning an automatic bid when it won the Colonial Athletic Association tournament championship.
