Viens Named The American Offensive Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I., Oct. 21, 2019 – Senior forward Evelyne Viens (L'Ancienne-Lorette, Canada) earned her fourth American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season. Senior defender Brianna Blethen (Bradenton, Fla.) was also named to the AAC weekly honor roll.

Viens had another dominant week on the Bulls' front line. The senior scored two goals during the week, split between UConn and Temple. She scored the game-tying goal against UConn to help the team win, 1-0, on Oct. 17. She also netted the game-winner against Temple three days later.

Her goal against Temple was the 62nd of her career, breaking the all-time AAC record, previously held by UConn's Rachel Hill, who scored 61 goals between 2013 and 2016.

Blethen also had a successful week on the pitch, earning her first honor roll selection of the year. The defender played a critical role in a back line that limited UConn and Temple to a combined five shots on goal. Her efforts helped lead to a shutout against Temple on Senior Day.

Not only did she play stellar defensively, Blethen also created offensive opportunities for the Bulls. The senior logged seven shots, including four on goal. She also assisted Viens' record-breaking goal against Temple.
