Martinez, Viens Earn American Athletic Conference Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I., Oct. 28, 2019 – Three members of the University of South Florida women's soccer team were selected for weekly honors after the team extended its winning streak to seven. The Bulls won defeated Cincinnati 1-0 on Friday and East Carolina 3-1 on Sunday.
 
Sophomore Sydney Martinez (Rincon, Ga.) earned her first American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week honor of the season. A critical part of both wins this week, Martinez blanked Cincinnati to earn her third shutout of the season, making two saves to keep the clean sheet. She also made three saves in the 3-1 win over ECU.
 
Senior Evelyne Viens (L'Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec, Canada) was named The American Offensive Player of the Week for the fifth time this season and the third time in the last four weeks. She scored against both Cincinnati and East Carolina. Her goal just 2:45 into the game against the Bearcats was the game-winner, her sixth game winning goal of the year and 21st of her career. Viens has scored eight goals in her last seven games.
 
Defender Fanny Pelletier-Laroche (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) was also selected for The American's Weekly Honor Roll. The defender played a crucial role on USF's defense over the last week, playing 158 minutes of action in the two wins. Including her work during the shutout effort against Cincinnati, she helped limit opposing teams to just 12 total shots and six shots on goal while also delivering the game-winning goal against ECU.
 
USF closes out the regular season on Thursday at UCF in the annual War On I-4. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. The Bulls clinched a first-round bye with its win over ECU. South Florida will now be either the one- or two-seed in the AAC Tournament.
