TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Nov. 21, 2019 – The No. 11 University of South Florida women's soccer team enters the second weekend of the NCAA tournament with a matchup against fourth-seeded Washington on Friday. This is the fourth time the Bulls have reached the second round of the tournament. The team is looking to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time in program history.
 
The Bulls (15-4) defeated Florida, 4-2, for the first time in program history to advance to the second round on Nov. 15. Evelyne Viens (L'Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec, Canada) recorded her fourth career hat trick in the match, setting a new program record. She also broke the single-season goals records for both the program, which she also set last season, and the American Athletic Conference.
 
Viens was named TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Player of the Week for her performance.
 
No. 19 Washington (12-6-2)
Washington enters Friday's game with a 12-6-2 record, including a first-round win over Seattle University, 1-0.
 
Sophomore forward Summer Yates leads the Huskies on the stat sheet, with eight goals and six assists for 22 points. Behind her, 17 different student-athletes have registered at least one point this year. Senior Siena Ruelas has spent the most time in net so far for Washington, and has compiled
a 10-4-0 record in addition to a 0.818 save percentage and a 0.88 goals-against average.
 
NOTABLES
  • Fanny Pelletier-Laroche (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) also scored a goal to help seal the win over Florida in Gainesville. Andrea Hauksdottir (Kopavogur, Iceland) earned the assist on the goal.
  • This is the first time that USF and Washington will meet on the pitch.
