Viens, Hauksdottir Headline American Athletic Conference Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I., Nov. 5, 2019 – The University of South Florida women's soccer program received significant consideration in the American Athletic Conference yearly soccer awards. The program won two players of the year and had five placed on all-conference lists.

Evelyne Viens was named AAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year, while Andrea Hauksdottir was named AAC Midfielder of the Year. Both also earned first team all-conference honors. Sydny Nasello was named to the second team all-conference, while Lucy Roberts and Rosalia Muino Gonzalez earned spots on the AAC All-Rookie Team.

"I'm really excited for the girls that got recognized in the awards," head coach Denise Schilte-Brown said. "I'm so proud of them. They are all hard workers and they represent our program well."

Senior forward Viens (L'Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec, Canada) earned her second straight AAC Offensive Player of the Year honor, being named the recipient of the award alongside Memphis' Clarissa Larisey. She was also unanimously named first team all-conference. Viens continued her record-breaking ways this season, having already shattered USF records last season. With 64 career goals, the Canadian broke the AAC all-time goals record, moving past Rachel Hill, who had 61 goals with UConn from 2013-16. She also broke the AAC career points record, which now sits at 151. One of only two active DI players with 50 goals and 20 assists in their career, Viens is also the DI active career leader in points and goals. This season, she led the conference in game-winning goals (6), goals per game (1.07), points per game (2.33), shots per game (5.47), total goals (16) and total points (35). She also led the nation in shots on goal per game (3.40).

Senior midfielder Hauksdottir (Kopavogur, Iceland) also earned her second straight AAC Midfielder of the Year award and was named to the all-conference first team. Hauksdottir started all 16 matches for the Bulls this season, racking up 1,355 minutes, which put her second on the team. The Icelander has scored four goals and tallied seven assists this season, including two critical penalty kick goals. One of the penalty kicks was the game-winning goal against Tulsa with only 13 seconds remaining in double OT. She tallied two assists in back-to-back games at the UTSA tournament, with a pair against both UTSA and Rice.

Sophomore forward Nasello was placed on second team all-conference, also for the second straight year. The Land O' Lakes, Fla., native opened the year with a bang, scoring the game-winning goal against Auburn with 18 seconds left in regulation. Overall, the sophomore played in all 16 games while making 14 starts, playing a total of 1,127 minutes. She also scored two goals and tallied five assists.

Freshman defender Roberts was a unanimous selection to the AAC All-Rookie Team. Roberts immediately made an impact on USF's defense in her first season, helping the team post five shutouts. The Cheshire, England native played a critical role on the USF backline that limited opponents to 7.19 shots and 3.19 shots on goal this season. Her play helped the Bulls post a massive shots and goals differential, with the Bulls outshooting opponents, 297-115, and outscoring opponents, 33-15.

Freshman midfielder Muino Gonzalez (Coruna, Spain) was also selected for the AAC All-Rookie Team. Muino Gonzalez played in 13 matches for the Bulls this season as one of its critical reserves. Her aggressive play style made her a catalyst on both sides of the ball, limiting opposing attacks and creating opportunities for the offense.
