Hauksdottir, Viens Earn Scholar All-Region Recognition

TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 16, 2019 – One of the most decorated duos in University of South Florida women's soccer history added another accolade on Monday, with United Soccer Coaches announcing Andrea Hauksdottir and Evelyne Viens were named to the First Team Scholar All-South Region list.

"Andrea and Evelyne embody exactly what we want in our student athletes here at USF," head coach Denise Schilte-Brown said. "They work equally as hard at their academic achievement as they do at their development of soccer."

The South Region for consists of schools from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. In order to be selected for the award, a player must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, start at least 50 percent of the program's games played, be an elite player supported by playing honors and be a junior or above in athletic standing.

Viens (L'Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec) and Hauksdottir (Kopavogur, Iceland) have been on the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team in each of the last three years. The pair have also been on the USF Athletic Department Honor Roll in each semester since the department began the award.

Viens graduated this fall with a degree in accounting, while Hauksdottir will graduate in the spring with a degree in management.

Viens ended her collegiate career atop the record books in many offensive categories. Having already broken the program record for all-time goals and points, Viens set her sights on the American Athletic Conference records in the same categories. She ended No. 1 in both areas, finishing with 169 points and 73 goals. She also holds the career records for both the program and the AAC in shots, ending with 360 over the last four years.

The Canadian scored 25 goals this year, recording the AAC and program single-season record for scores in a season. With four goals against Rice on Sept. 6 and a hat trick at Florida in the NCAA tournament, she also broke the program's career record for hat tricks with four during her career.

USF women's soccer's first All-American in 2017, Viens was named a United Soccer Coaches All-American for the third time in her career after earning second-team honors this season. Viens was also named The American Co-Offensive Player of the Year, All-AAC First Team, AAC All-Tournament team and the AAC Tournament's Most Outstanding Offensive Player this year. She was a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award as well, which recognizes excellence in four areas: academics, character, competition and community.

Hauksdottir also capped a tremendous career with an exciting senior campaign. The Icelander tallied 17 points, tying her career-best that she set last season. As the Bulls go-to player for penalty kicks, she scored two goals from the dot.

The midfielder recorded a new career high for assists as well, aiding in nine goals throughout the season. The mark tied for fifth in the program's single-season assists list. She was named all-conference first team and The American Athletic Conference Midfielder of the Year.

Hauksdottir ended her career on many record lists as well. She finished second in program history and fifth on the conference's all-time list for assists with 26 in her career.
