USF’s Hauksdottir, Viens Named Scholar All-Americans

TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 18, 2019 – Andrea Hauksdottir and Evelyne Viens have another accolade to add to their collection, with both being named Scholar All-Americans by United Soccer Coaches on Wednesday. Viens now has four All-America honors in her career, while Hauksdottir collects her first with the nod.

"This is an incredible achievement for them," head coach Denise Schilte-Brown said. "We're so excited for them. Evelyne and Andrea continue to be superstars on and off the pitch."

United Soccer Coaches selects yearly Scholar All-Americans based off nominations from head coaches around the country. In order to be eligible, a player must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, start more than 50 percent of team games, be an elite player supported by playing honors and contributions to the team and be a junior or above in athletic standing. Those who meet the requirements are considered by a national committee who makes the final decision.

Hauksdottir (Kopavogur, Iceland) and Viens (L'Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec) helped USF reach multiple new program milestones in 2019. The team was ranked in the top 10 by TopDrawerSoccer.com for the first time in program history on Sept. 16. USF also reached the Sweet 16 for the first time and tallied a program high 16 wins in 2019.

The pair of Bulls have been on the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team in each of the last three years. In addition, they have been on the USF Athletic Department Honor Roll in each semester since the department started the award.

Hauksdottir will graduate in May with a degree in management, while Viens graduated this fall with a degree in accounting.

Hauksdottir (Kopavogur, Iceland) finished her career with USF with a stellar 2019. The senior was named The American Midfielder of the Year for the second straight season and was also selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region First Team. A 2019 MAC Hermann Watch List designee, Hauksdottir finished the year with four goals and nine assists for 17 points, tied for second on the team.

Her nine assists on the season marked a new single-season high for the Icelander, and she finished second on USF's all-time list for assists with 26. The career mark also finished fifth on the conference's all-time list.

Hauksdottir started the year off quickly, posting a season-high three points against Saint Leo (Aug. 29) off a goal and an assist. The game started a three-game multi-point streak, as she followed up her Saint Leo performance with two assists against both Rice (Sept. 6) and UTSA (Sept. 8).

The midfielder scored the game-winning goal against Tulsa (Sept. 26) off a penalty kick in the 110th minute, earning the Bulls' first conference win of the season. Hauksdottir ended the season 2-for-3 from the dot, also adding a PK goal in a 2-0 win over Temple (Oct. 20).

In the NCAA tournament, Hauksdottir tallied two assists in the 4-2 win at Florida (Nov. 15).

Viens earned her second All-America honor of the season with the first-team honor. A United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American this season, Viens now has four titles over her career.

With 73 goals, 169 points and 360 shots in her career, Viens set new program and conference records in all three categories. The Canadian also sent new conference career records with 2.19 points per game, 0.95 goals per game and 4.68 shots per game.

Viens tallied 25 goals in her senior season, setting a new program and conference single-season high. In the program record book, she now holds the first, second and third-place spot on the single-season goals list. Her 53 points on the season also sets a new program record. She also holds the program single-season records for shots (113) and game-winning goals (10). On the conference level, she broke the season records for points per game (2.65) and goals per game (1.25).

Viens opened the season with a goal three minutes and 45 seconds into the year on Aug. 22 against Auburn. In the team's first road game of the season, Viens tallied four scores in a 5-0 victory over Rice (Sept. 6). The double-brace kicked off a three-game stretch where she would score seven goals and add two assists. Her four-goal effort against Rice earned her national honors as well, as she was named the United Soccer Coaches' and TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Player of the Week.

Against Memphis on Sept. 29, she scored USF's goal, kicking off a span of seven consecutive games where she scored at least one goal. Once the postseason started, Viens stepped it up even more. Netting all four of USF's goals in the conference tournament, she also scored a hat trick against Florida, scoring seven straight goals for the Bulls to open postseason play. In total for postseason play, she scored nine goals in four games.

After her four-goal performance in the conference tournament, she was again recognized on the national level, earning her second TopDrawerSoccer.com National Player of the Week honor for the season.

For her efforts this season, Viens was placed on the AAC's All-Conference First Team and the AAC All-Tournament Team. She was also a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award.
