USF’s Viens Earns Third Consecutive All-America Nod
TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 5, 2019 – For the third consecutive year, senior forward
Evelyne Viens is an All-American, United Soccer Coaches announced on Thursday. The Canadian earned a spot on United Soccer Coaches' second team All-America list made public during the College Cup banquet in San Jose, Calif.
"
Evelyne Viens has been an impact player since the day she stepped foot on the USF campus," head coach
Denise Schilte-Brown said. "She deserves all the recognition she gets and we are excited to see her professional career take off."
Viens was USF women's soccer's first All-American after her sophomore year, when she earned third-team honors from United Soccer Coaches. She repeated the feat last season with third-team honors. Viens is one of six on this year's list that have earned the honor three times in their career.
The senior from L'Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec, finished her historic career with a bang, helping the team reach its best finish in the NCAA tournament in the Sweet 16 with a new program-high 16 wins.
Viens finished her career with 73 goals, 169 points and 360 shots, setting new program and conference records in all three categories. She also holds the conference all-time record in points per game (2.19), goals per game (0.95) and shots per game (4.68).
In her senior season, she tallied 25 goals, again breaking the program and conference single-season record. In the program record book, she now holds the first, second and third-place spot on the single-season goals list.
This season, her 53 points also give her the single-season program record. She also holds the single-season records for shots (113) and game-winning goals (10). On the conference level, she broke the season records for points per game (2.65) and goals per game (1.25).
Viens was named The American Offensive Player of the Week six times this season en route to her second straight AAC Offensive Player of the Year title. The six weekly awards were the most given to one player in a single season in conference history. In her career, she was recognized in the weekly awards a total of 15 times overall and 11 times for her offensive abilities, both new conference records.
With hat tricks in the 4-2 win over Florida in the NCAA tournament and the 5-0 win over Rice, Viens has four in her career, breaking the program all-time record. She also is tied atop the single-game goals scored list, scoring four goals twice alongside Erin Devine, who scored four at St. Thomas in 1995.
Viens finished her collegiate career as one of two active players with at least 50 goals and 20 assists.
This season, Viens quickly returned to her goal scoring ways. She scored the season-opening goal just three minutes and 45 seconds into the opener against Auburn on Aug. 22. Two games later, she netted four goals in a 5-0 rout of Rice on Sept. 6, kicking off a three-game stretch where she tallied 16 points off seven goals and two assists. Her four-goal effort against Rice earned her national honors as well, as she was named the United Soccer Coaches' and TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Player of the Week.
Against Memphis on Sept. 29, she scored USF's goal, kicking off a span of seven consecutive games where she scored at least one goal. Once the postseason started, Viens stepped it up even more. Netting all four of USF's goals in the conference tournament, she also scored a hat trick against Florida, scoring seven straight goals for the Bulls to open postseason play. In total for postseason play, she scored nine goals in four games.
After her four-goal performance in the conference tournament, she was again recognized on the national level, earning her second TopDrawerSoccer.com National Player of the Week honor for the season.
For her efforts this season, Viens was placed on the AAC's All-Conference First Team and the AAC All-Tournament Team. She is also a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award.
