USF Travels to No. 23 Kentucky, Tennessee
TAMPA, Feb. 14, 2019 – The University of South Florida women's tennis team (4-3) will travel to Lexington, Kentucky, to face No. 23 Kentucky on Friday, Feb. 15, and then journey to Knoxville, Tennessee to take on Tennessee, Sunday Feb. 17. Both matches will be played at noon.
USF's most recent action includes a two-win weekend in which they shut out MTSU 7-0, and beat UNF 6-1, extending USF's winning streak to three games.
Senior
Ana Roman Dominguez (Burgos, Spain), now sits at No. 36 in the ITA single's rankings. Roman Dominguez is 7-0 at the premier spot this season, with three ranked wins this season, including defeating the nation's top player then-No. 1 Katarina Jokic (Novi Grad, Bosnia) from UGA in the ITA Kick-Off weekend, 7-6(4), 6-2.
Scouting the Opponent:
No. 23 Kentucky
Kentucky (5-1) most impressive win this season came against Auburn (receiving votes) during the ITA Kick-Off weekend. The Wildcats' sole ranked player, No. 94 senior Justina Mikulskyte (Siaulial, Lithuania), is 3-0 when she plays at the premier spot, and was the only member of her team to win a match in Kentucky's loss to Ohio State, 6-0, 6-3.
Tennessee
Tennessee (4-2) also had their most impressive win at the ITA Kick-Off weekend, with a 4-3 win over then-No. 15 Florida State. Their only home loss of the year came at the racquets of Old Dominion, who is receiving votes.
The Volunteers boast a ranked doubles team with the pairing of sophomore Kaitlin Staines (Wagga Wagga, Australia) and senior Sadie Hammond (Belgrade, Maine), at No. 17.
