Bell Wins Pole Vault, Janic Takes Second in Pentathlon at AAC Championships
BIRMINGHAM, ALA., FEB. 23, 2019 – USF senior
David Bell (Jacksonville) captured the individual title in the pole vault and scored 10 points for the Bulls to highlight competition at the American Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships.
Bell turned in a height of 16-10.00 on his way to earning all-conference honors. Freshman
Stone Baker (New Port Richey, Fla.) scored five points and placed fourth in the event with his height of 16-02.00, while
Mitchell Mueller (Algonac, Mich.) registered 0.5 points by finishing tied for eighth with a mark of 15-08.25.
Junior
Taquon Terry (Alachua, Fla.) picked up one point by placing eighth in the long jump with a distance of 23-04.00, which is tied for the sixth-longest indoor mark in school history. Freshman
Melvin Briley (Jacksonville) also recorded one point with an eighth-place showing in the triple jump with a distance of 47-09.00.
In running events,
Randall Ceneus (Birmingham, Ala.) qualified for the finals of the 400 meters with an eighth-place finish in the preliminaries with a time of 48.86 seconds. He would go on to place seventh in the final and score two points for the Bulls with a time of 48.81.
The USF distance medley team tallied two points with a time of 10:28.62 en route to a seventh-place finish. On Saturday, the 4x400 meter relay team earned four points by placing fifth with a time of 3:15.44, which stands as the third-fastest indoor time in school history.
Junior
Adriana Janic (Malmo, Sweden) scored eight points with a second-place finish in the pentathlon with 3,791 points. Janic won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.54 and captured the crown in the high jump with a height of 5-08.50, which is tied for the fifth-best indoor height in school history. Janic also took second in the long jump with a distance of 18-09.75, giving her the 10th-longest indoor distance in school history.
Janic also competed in the high jump on Saturday and placed seventh and tallied one point with a height of 5-05.00. She added another three points with her sixth-place showing in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.57.
Senior
Stephanie Lambeth (Frankenmuth, Mich.) tallied four points by finishing fifth in the pole vault with a height of 13-01.00, while
Javonia Ellis (Like Minneola, Fla.) took eighth in the long jump and scored a point with a distance of 18-09.75, tying Janic for the 10th-longest indoor mark in school history. Sophomore
Imani Carmouche (Mt. Zion, Ga.) took fifth in the high jump and tied the fifth-best indoor mark in school history with a height of 5-08.00.
Senior
Chelsea Francis (Jacksonville) turned in the fastest indoor time in school history in the 200 meters at 23.99 seconds on her way to placing sixth in the preliminaries. Francis would go on to place sixth in the finals on Saturday and score three points with a time of 24.54 seconds.
USF returns to action March 14 when the Bulls travel to Houston to take part in the Houston Spring Break Invitational to open the outdoor season.
