Bulls Dominate Second-Straight Win, 6-1, Over UNF

TAMPA, Feb. 3, 2019 – Five Bulls came out victorious in their singles matches in USF's 6-1 win over UNF on Sunday at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts
 
Seniors Nicole Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe) and Vanja Klaric (Gabrone, Bostwana) clinched the doubles point for USF when the pair rallied back from a 4-2 deficit to win 7-5. Senior Ana Roman Dominguez and freshman Amelie Boy continued their dominance on the doubles court with a 6-1 victory. The match between sophomore Alexandria Mjos (Austin, Texas), and Evelyne Tiron (Bucharest, Romania), went unfinished against UNF's Florencia Rossi (Montevideo, Uruguay), and junior Lucia Montaño, (Santa Cruz, Bolivia).
 
After USF (4-3), won the doubles point, Boy (Trianon, Mauritis), dominated her match, in a straight-set takedown of junior Constanza Gorches (Mexico City, Mexico), 6-1, 6-1 on court five. Dzenga (Harare, Zimbabwe), won five unanswered games in her first set, leading to a 6-2, 6-3 victory on court six, extending USF's lead to 3-0.
 
Undefeated Roman Dominguez (Burgos, Spain), clinched USF's win on court one. The battle of each team's top players was tied, 4-4, before Roman Dominguez rallied to a 6-4 win over senior Rafaela Gomez (Guayaquil, Ecuador). Gomez won the first game of the second set before Roman Dominguez closed the door with six unanswered games to win her match, 6-4, 6-1. Roman Dominguez is now an incredible 7-0 at the Bulls' top court.
 
After USF clinched the match, freshman Laura Pellicer Perello (Gandia, Valencia, Spain), had a three-set victory over sophomore Valentina Moriotto (Santa Giustina, Italy), 6-2, 3-6, 1-0(5), on court four. Klaric had the final singles win of the afternoon, 6-3, 6-4 on court three.
 
Tiron played a grueling match, but eventually lost to her opponent, Lucia Montaño, in a super tiebreaker set, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0(9), on court two.
 
"I'm just really proud of my girls today," said head coach Cristina Moros. "You can see that the tide is starting to turn where that belief is in them, and they're starting to believe in their talent and the hard work that we've put in."
