Bulls Host Wichita State, Hope to Stay Undefeated in Conference Play
TAMPA, March 14, 2019 – The University of South Florida women's tennis team will look to improve their conference record to 3-0 against Wichita State at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts on Friday at noon.
USF (7-7, 2-0 AAC) is coming off of a 4-1 win over conference opponent SMU. Senior
Vanja Klaric (Gaborone, Botswana), clinched the victory for USF with a 6-0, 7-6(4), victory on court two.
Senior
Ana Roman Dominguez (Burgos, Spain), comes into this match at No. 43 in the ITA Singles rankings, and has 10 wins, with four of which are against ranked opponents at the premier spot, for a 10-2 record. She is the first and only Bull to reach 10 wins on the season.
Laura Pellicer Perello (Gandia, Valencia, Spain), is coming into this match on a five game winning streak, with two wins on courts three and four, and one win on court five. The freshman now has a 4-0 record on court four.
The pairing of Dzenga and Klaric, as well as the tandem of freshman
Amelie Boy (Trianon, Mauritis), and Roman Dominguez each have 5-4 record on their respective doubles courts.
USF now has a 2-1 record in the month of March at home.
Scouting the Opponent:
Wichita State
Wichita state (8-6) is coming into this match after beating then-No. 39 Gonzaga 6-1 at home. The Shockers have a 2-1 record in The American, with wins over Cincinnati and SMU. Wichita State's premier singles player, senior Sandra Honigova, is 7-4 on the season playing the No. 1. The Shockers have a ranked doubles team, junior Fatima Bizhukova and Marta Bellucco, sitting at No. 46, with a 5-3 record at the No. 2.
