Bulls Set to Face CMU and Furman on Wednesday

TAMPA, March 5, 2019 – USF will welcome Central Michigan and Furman on Wednesday for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
 
USF (12-9) went 4-2 last week with wins over FGCU, Ball State, Iowa and Western Michigan. The Bulls' midweek doubleheader was dropped from two games to one due to weather, and USF competed in the USF-Clearwater Parks and Recreation Invitational over the weekend.
 
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) blasted the competition when she went undefeated in the circle, 4-0, to accumulate nine straight wins. The American Pitcher of the Week struck out 43 batters in four games, including setting a new career high at 14 in the Bull's 5-3 win over WMU. Corrick's win over WMU was the third time that she reached double-digit strikeouts last week.
 
Corrick leads the league in strikeouts (78) and victories (9) and ranks third in ERA (1.24), hits per seven innings (4.06) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.88). Nationally, she ranks eighth in victories and 21st in strikeouts
 
Redshirt sophomore Bethaney Keen leads the Bulls at bat with a .328 average. She recorded her third multiple-RBI game on Sunday with a two-run single. She also leads the squad in on-base percentage at .420.
 
Scouting the Opponents
Central Michigan (7-8)
The Chippewas started their stretch in the sunshine state last week with the Madeira Beach Tournament where CMU went 3-2 with wins over St. John's, Siena and Presbyterian. Central Michigan will take on South Dakota State and Penn in a doubleheader on Tuesday morning in Clearwater before visiting USF Softball Stadium on Wednesday and will participate in the USF-Clearwater Parks and Recreation Showcase over the weekend.
 
The Chippewas' best hitter, Shannon Stein, was named the Mid-American Conference Softball Player of the Week after her red-hot start to the season batting .405 overall (.571 last week). Stein has a .905 slugging percentage this season with a whopping six home runs in 15 appearances.
 
CMU's top pitcher, Kaitlyn Bean, leads the pitching staff in ERA, 1.63. She has tossed 27 innings over eight appearances for a 2-1 mark in the circle. Bean has limited opponents to a .291 average.
 
Furman (5-11)
The Paladins are led by former USF assistant coach Wally King in his first year as a head coach. Furman competed in the USF-Clearwater Parks and Recreation Invitational last weekend and will stay this weekend for the showcase after its midweek matchup with the Bulls.
 
The Paladins went 3-2 last weekend with the help of last week's Southern Conference Pitcher and Player of the week, Emily Demonte and Marissa Guimbarda. Dumonte registered a 2.24 ERA last week (5.25 overall) with a 3-1 record (5-6 overall) in six appearances and four starts. The right-handed pitcher walked just two batters in 34.1 innings and posted a two-hit shutout against Middle Tennessee with just 66 pitches.
 
Guimbarda batted .522 to earn her player of the week honor with six homeruns and 12 RBI over seven games. She homered three times in Furman's doubleheader against Georgia Southern, went 3-for-4 against Penn and 4-for-4 with four RBI against Incarnate Word.
